retrofits that will improve the energy
efficiency of your home. |

Once you have completed
the upgrades you will do a secondary
evaluation (post-retrofit) and a new
energy efficiency rating label will
indicate your home's improved energy
use. |

You will receive
government grants based on each of the
recommended retrofits you have completed
and the relative impact the retrofits
have on the energy efficiency of your
home. |

How do I apply for an ENERGY AUDIT?
- Hire an auditor licensed by Natural
Resources Canada for a first or pre-retrofit
audit which typically costs between $360 - $400
(depending on the home's size). Auditors will
show you how to improve the comfort of your home
by cutting heating and cooling costs, while
ensuring adequate ventilation for a healthy
indoor environment.
- The auditor carries out the pre-retrofit
audit and provides the homeowner with a report
that contains recommendations on energy
efficiency improvements and an EnerGuide rating.
- In Ontario, the provincial Home Energy Audit
Program will issue a $150 cheque to the
homeowner for the pre-audit. A homeowner is not
required to carry out a retrofit to receive the
rebate.
- The homeowners select their improvements and
implement the recommended energy upgrades. A
post-retrofit evaluation is done (approximately
$150) to confirm the new energy rating. The
auditor will submit the grant application. The
homeowner has until March 31, 2011 to complete
the improvements (subject to available funding).
- The homeowner should receive a cheque within
90 days from the date of the post-retrofit
evaluation (times may vary depending on volume).
